Students Logged 42,600 Hours with Harbor Partners in 2025

Student affairs closed the 2025 service ledger on October 31. AES students recorded 42,600 hours with organizations that signed the partner agreement. Hours count only when the partner signs the monthly sheet. A student cannot add hours at the end of the year from memory.

Where the hours went

  • Yarrow Tutors, 14,200 hours. After-school reading and mathematics in four Yarrow County schools. Tutors are placed for a term, not for a single afternoon.
  • VITA tax sites, 6,400 hours. Certified student preparers, supervised by the accounting faculty, at the union and at the longshore hall on Saturdays in February and March.
  • Clinic transport, 8,100 hours. Driving patients from Pilot Cove and the upriver towns to Shoreline Health. Drivers pass the university van check and carry the clinic’s schedule, not their own.
  • Beach and net crews, 9,300 hours. Monthly beach walks coordinated with the port, plus Net Mending Night, which is logged because the repaired gear goes back to working boats.
  • Other partners, 4,600 hours. Food recovery at the house dining rooms and two shifts a week at the county food pantry.

This is not a graduation quota

The catalog does not require a service-hour total for the degree. The field term is the requirement. These hours are voluntary, paid in a few of the VITA and transport roles, and recorded so the university can tell partners, and the board, what was actually done.
