Programs with a field requirement
The 2026–27 catalog lists 78 degrees and certificates in six colleges. The list below is the set we are actively admitting for Fall 2027. Tuition for a full-time undergraduate is $41,200, plus $1,840 in fees. Room and board in the houses is $14,600.
Bachelor’s degrees
Undergraduates complete the AES core (writing, quantitative reasoning, coastal history, and a field term) plus the major. The field term is credit-bearing and graded. It is not a volunteer add-on.
Marine Biology, B.S.
Organismal biology, ocean chemistry, and a required summer at the Calder Bay Marine Laboratory. The senior cruise report is archived in the Seacliff Library.
Environmental Science, B.S.
Watersheds, estuaries, and environmental policy. Students complete a term with the county planning department or the port’s environmental office.
Civil & Coastal Engineering, B.S.
ABET-accredited. Structures, coastal processes, and a design-build studio. Recent studios rebuilt the public float at Pilot Cove and a tide-gauge pier.
Computer Science, B.S.
ABET-accredited. Systems, data, and a required project with the Harbor Data Observatory or a harbor employer. The degree is not a general software track with a coastal sticker.
Elementary Education, B.A.
CAEP-accredited and approved for Oregon preliminary licensure. Student teaching is a full year in a partner district, with a supervisor on that campus each week.
Nursing, B.S.N.
CCNE-accredited. Clinical rotations run through Shoreline Health, the county health department, and occupational clinics that serve the fleet. Graduates sit for the NCLEX.
Business Administration, B.S.
Accounting, operations, and a fisheries or port concentration. The junior consulting project is staffed by a local firm, co-op, or the port authority.
Environmental Design, B.A.
Studios in landscape, small public buildings, and interpretation. The senior review is juried by practicing designers from the Oregon coast and the Lisbon center.
Master’s and doctoral programs
Graduate admission is by program, not by a single university-wide score. Most programs read files that are complete by January 15, 2027. The Ph.D. requires a faculty sponsor before the file is read.
M.S. Marine Science
Thesis required. Students are funded as research assistants on laboratory projects when a grant line is open. The 2026 cohort is 18 students.
M.S. Coastal Engineering
Coursework in coastal structures, numerical modeling, and a design thesis. Several students are placed with the port’s engineering office for the second year.
M.Ed. Educational Leadership
Offered on the Calder Bay campus and, in the evening, at the Pearl Graduate Center. Aimed at teachers moving into principal or curriculum roles in rural districts.
Master of Public Health
CEPH-accredited. The practicum is 240 hours in a county health department, tribal clinic, or occupational health service. Cohort size is capped at 24.
M.B.A., Coastal Economies
AACSB program taught at the Pearl Graduate Center. Concentrations in port management, fisheries enterprise, and small-firm finance. Class meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
M.S. Environmental Data Science
Statistics, remote sensing, and a practicum on Harbor Data Observatory streams. Students publish a documented dataset with the thesis.
D.N.P., Nursing Practice
CCNE-accredited. For nurses already in practice. The scholarly project must be sited in a coastal or rural clinical setting.
Ph.D. Ocean & Climate Science
Admission is by faculty sponsorship. Stipend for 2026–27 is $32,400 plus tuition and health coverage. Students teach one lab section each year after the first.
Online degrees and certificates
Online work is limited to programs where the faculty can still see the student’s practice, through residencies, a field module, or a project sited in the student’s own workplace. We do not offer a fully remote bachelor’s degree.
M.Ed. Curriculum & Instruction (online)
24 monthsThe same School of Education faculty as the campus M.Ed., with two required weekend residencies in Calder Bay. Built for teachers who cannot leave a classroom post.
Admission stepsGraduate Certificate in Fisheries Management
9 monthsFour courses: stock assessment, co-op governance, policy, and a field module during the summer closure. Certificate stacks into the M.S. or the M.B.A.
Admission stepsCertificate in Coastal Resilience Planning
Two termsFor working planners. Flood mapping, zoning on filled land, and a studio using the student’s own jurisdiction as the site.
Admission stepsCertificate in Environmental Data Analysis
One term, summerA condensed version of the observatory practicum for agency staff. Enrollment is limited to 20. The 2026 section filled on March 2.
Admission stepsWhat students use while they are here
Faculty advising
One advisor from entry to the senior project. Appointments are booked through the Harbor Portal. Drop-in hours run Monday to Thursday, 1:30 to 4:00 p.m., in each college office.
Harbor Data Observatory
One hundred forty sensors on tide, weather, and water quality. Students in engineering and data science get an account in the first month of the relevant course. The help desk is in Hester Hall, room 114.
Writing studio
The Seacliff Library writing studio takes course papers, cruise reports, and theses. Appointments are 45 minutes. Graduate tutors are paid by the library, not by the student.
Study away
The standing options are the Lisbon semester, a term at North Harbor College in Seattle, and exchange places at No.1 Education and BRAS Academy. The study-away office confirms credit before a student leaves.
Career studio
Résumé reviews, a fall recruiting day with coastal employers, and a nine-month outcome survey of every graduating class. The Class of 2025 survey closed at 93% employed or enrolled.
Undergraduate research
The summer fellowship is ten weeks, a $5,400 stipend, and housing in Pilot House. Applications for summer 2027 open December 1, 2026, through the research office.
